[1] NEW GRANT PROGRAM WEB SITE NOW ACTIVE The Department of Education's new web site, "Improving Literacy Through School Libraries" is up and running. The web address is: www.ed.gov/offices/OESE/LSL The web site includes a list of all school districts that are eligible to receive Department of Education grants (about 5,600) but does not list eligible charter schools as previously reported. (Charter schools must contact states directly for grant information.) Don't forget, the Department of Education office that will run the grant program will be at ALA's Annual Conference, explaining exactly how to apply for these grants. They have agreed to stay as long as it takes to answer all questions! So come to the Convention Center on Saturday, June 15, Room 313, beginning at 10:30 a.m. Please contact the ALA Washington Office if your school is at least at the 20% poverty line but your school district is not eligible for grants.
