Return to the Table of Contents Historical NoteThis collection contains information on several internship programs at Mount Holyoke College. The Washington Internship Program began in 1949 as a summer program that allowed Mount Holyoke students to work for ten to twelve weeks with member of the House, Senate, or other branch of the federal government. In 1950 the International Internship Program was initiated to allow students to volunteer as aids to United Nations officials, or to other government officials abroad. Students in this program are encouraged to live in international students centers. Other internships in science, arts, and business fields are also available. Return to the Table of Contents Scope and Contents of the CollectionThe records include newspaper clippings, annual reports (1974-1992), press releases, brochures, annual reports for the International Program (1972-1983), a directory of former International Interns, evaluations (1972-75), photographs (1959-1971), and annual reports for the Washington, D.C. Internship Program (1974-1983). Lists of participants with summaries of their work is included for most years, along with a catalogue of contacts willing to host Mount Holyoke students.
