Historical Note

The Women in Science Program began in 1978 under Edwin S. Weaver, Professor of Chemistry at Mount Holyoke College. Initially it was funded by the National Science Foundation and then by the General Electic Foundation. This tuition-free program was designed to re-train women in chemical instrumentation during a two-week long summer session. Approximately 20 women participated each year.
