Historical Note

In response to the continual demand for increased endowment, an Executive Secretary of the Endowment Fund Office was appointed in 1919. Previously, the responsibility for raising funds had rested on the administration, trustees and alumnae. The responsibilities of the Office included forming and implementing building plans, actively campaigning for funds, collecting a target amount and administering the endowment. From 1923 to 1994, the name of the Office underwent many changes, beginning with Office of the Field Secretary (1923); Director of the Development Program in the Office of the Secretary of the College (1950); Development Officer (1965); Development Office (1975); and Office of Development (1994).
