Return to the Table of Contents Historical NoteIn 1907, a Dean was first appointed to oversee academic, social, vocational and scholarship affairs at Mount Holyoke. In 1928, these responsibilities were divided among an Academic Dean, Director of the Appointment Bureau and a Dean of Residence. The Office of the Dean of Residence became the Office of the Dean of Students in 1964. It oversees the nonacademic affairs of the students, such as Student Activities (co-curricular activities), the Drug and Alcohol Awareness Program, Residential Life. Return to the Table of Contents Scope and Contents of the CollectionThe records of the Office of the Dean of Students include correspondence regarding the searches for Directors of Residential Life and Student Activities (1987); Annual Reports (1929-1989); general records including correspondence, memos, announcements, news clippings (1943-1994); Cycles surveys (1976-1990); and a number of subject files. The annual reports cover the Office of Residential Life with information of statistics on dorms, including rooms, students, Head Resident changes, and student activities, consisting of information on student run groups such as the Student Government Association and events such as Winter Term.
