Scope and Contents of the Collection

The personal and professional information in the records of Sophia Hazen [Stoddard] include correspondence from 1849-1890; biographical materials including obituaries, tributes and memorial addresses; and biographies of her first husband, David Stoddard, and a published sermon on the life of her brother-in-law, Deacon Charles Stoddard. The materials provide both concise outlines and more elaborate overviews of her teaching career at the Seminary and her missionary work. The tributes are particularly notable for their number and their high commendation of Hazen's work and character.
