Biographical NoteDorothy Ada Snow was born January 10, 1912 in Keene, New Hampshire. She recieved her A.B. from University of New Hampshire in 1933 and attended Northampton Commercial College in 1939-1940. Snow was employed at Mount Holyoke College from 1940 until her retirement in 1977. Snow held three positions during her time at Mount Holyoke: secretary in the Department of Academic Administration, Secretary to the Academic Dean, and Executive Secretary to the Academic Dean. Dorothy Snow died on July 10, 1997. Return to the Table of Contents Scope and Contents of the CollectionThe Dorothy Ada Snow Papers include travel diaries and itineraries, correspondence, and photo albums. Snow was employed at Mount Holyoke College from 1940 until her retirement in 1977. Four brief travel diaries and two itineraries record Snow's travels to Great Britain and Ireland in 1963 and 1965. The diaries contain discussions of meals, lodgings, fellow travellers, and the sights. Other materials include the cards, notes, and letters which Snow recieved upon her retirement. Two photograph albums in the collection also relate to Snow's retirement. One album includes photos of friends and coworkers, identifing captions accompany all of the photos. Return to the Table of Contents Search TermsReturn to the Table of Contents Organization of the CollectionThis collection is organized into four series: Return to the Table of Contents Contents ListBiographical Material, 1960,1997 1 folderThis series contains two items, a brief biographical sketch of Dorothy Snow published in 1960, and Snow's obituary from the Union News published on July 10, 1997. chronological Travel Materials, 1963,1965 1 folderThis series consists of seven items, including four small handwritten travel diaries, two travel itineraries, and one map of Great Britian. One two-page typed itinerary outlines Dorothy Snow trip Scotland and England in the summer of 1963. Two of the diaries also record the events of this trip. The diaries are small lined notebooks which contain Snow's remarks about meals, lodgings, fellow travelers, and the sights. The entries in the first notebook are from July 1 through July 22, 1963. Entries in the second notebook are from July 22-July 30. This notebook also contains serveral pages of the gifts purched by Snow on her trip, as well as the costs and recipients of those gifts. Snow 1965 trip to Ireland, Wales, and England is similarly represented with one itineraty and two small travel diaries. The style and contents of these diaries is very similar to those from 1963, however, the 1965 notebooks contain several sketchs of the floor plans of hotel rooms. The second 1965 notebook also contains four recipies. The series also contains one map of Great Britain and Ireland published by AAA international travel service. chronological Retirement Materials, 1977 3 folderThis series contains forty-four items, including letters, cards, notes, invitations, poems, and two photo albums sent to Dorothy Snow upon her retirement from Mount Holyoke College. The majority of the items are brief congratulatory notes. The first album was compiled by Laura Paquette for Snow. It is titled "Presenting an April 1977 collection of familar faces." The album is spiral bound, with six leaves that hold forty-three color snapshots. The photographs show Mount Holyoke College staff, faculty, and students. Typed captions identify all those pictured. The cover of the second album is stamped "May 1977 Dorothy Snow." The book has six leaves, containing thirty-three color photographs, the majority of which are candid shots of Snow's retirement party. chornological Photographs, n.d. 1 foldersThis series contains one item, a set of four small undated black and white photographs of Dorothy Snow.
