Biographical Note

Sarah Goodrich Talcott was born in 1835 to Allyn and Martha G. Robbins Talcott. Her sister Martha Robbins Talcott graduated from Mount Holyoke in 1866. Sarah graduated from Mount Holyoke in 1855, and taught in South Hadley for a short time. She died in 1862.

Scope and Contents of the Collection

Chiefly letters to Talcott from relatives and friends giving her family news and discussing people and events in her hometown of Vernon, Connecticut. Includes letters from her parents Allyn and Martha G. Talcott, and sister, Martha, as well as letters from former classmates at Mount Holyoke Female Seminary and from several young men, principally concerning their work as teachers and their travels in New England, New York, the south and elsewhere in the United States. Also includes several letters by Talcott, dated 1853-1855, describing her life as a Mount Holyoke student.
