Biographical Note

Cynthia Mirandia Abram was born on June 3, 1835 in Parishville, New York to Margaret Haslem and William Abram. She attended Mount Holyoke Seminary from 1859-60 (x-Class of 1862), and married Cyrus Stafford in 1861. She taught at St. Lawrence Academy in Potsdam, New York, and in the local school in Auburn, Oregon. She died on March 24, 1863, in Auburn.

Scope and Contents of the Collection

The Cynthia Miranda Abram Stafford Correspondence contain two letters discussing her expenses as a student at Mount Holyoke Female Seminary and her plans for the future, 1859; three letters written during and after an overland journey to Oregon, 1861-1862; and one letter written by Cyrus G. Stafford, describing his wife's work as a teacher, her final illness and death.
