Biographical Note

Mary Caroline Ward was born ca. 1835. She was a Mount Holyoke Female Seminary non-graduate of the class of 1855. Her sister Emily Ward, also attended Mount Holyoke (x-Class of 1856). After leaving the Seminary, Ward taught in Elizabeth, New Jersey, New York City and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She also did editorial work.

Scope and Contents of the Collection

The Mary Caroline Ward Papers include 8 letters (dated March 1852 - July 1853) written by Ward to her parents while she was a student at Mount Holyoke Female Seminary. One letter (March, 1852) includes a note written by Ward's sister, Emily Ward (x-Class of 1856) concerning her own illnesses. Ward's letters generally regard life, illnesses and money matters at the Seminary. Also included in the collection are: an Alumnae Association sheet from 1915 and notes from Elizabeth Ward Trowbridge (Class of 1928) regarding Ward's lettrs.
