Biographical Note

Journalist Marylin Bender (1924-) worked as a reporter for the New York Journal American, 1951-58, and was a reporter, editor, and freelancer at the New York Times from 1959-78 and 1985-92. From 1976-77, she was editor of the NYT Business and Finance section, and from 1985-91, she edited Business World. She wrote several books, including The Beautiful People (1967), At the Top (1975), The Chosen Instrument (with S. Altschul, 1982), Nouveau is Better Than No Riche At All (with Monsieur Mare, 1983). She married Selig Altschul in 1959 and had a son, James Sloan, in 1960.
