Biographical Note

Abby Shute Merchant was born in Gloucester, Massachusetts, 1882; graduated Smith College 1904; later studied at Radcliffe, 1913-15. Editor for Craftsman, 1909; wrote for Sheet and Smith, 1909-12. Part-owner, the Prairie Playhouse, Galesburg (Ill), 1915-16, one of the first rural regional theatres using repertory techniques in community setting. Playwright 1912-40. She died in 1982.
