Series 1: CORRESPONDENCE

Series 1, Correspondence, contains family letters. They are arranged first alphabetically by author's name and then chronologically. If the author of a letter cannot be determined, the letter is filed under the name of the recipient. Of particular interest in this series are the letters to and from the brothers and sisters of William James, which document the amputation of Henry James' (1811-1882) leg. Also of special interest are the letters from William James to Marcia Ames James, Catherine Barber James Prince and from Catherine Barber James Prince to Elizabeth Tillman James Seelye concerning mental health and its cures.
