Administrative Information

The majority of the items in the collection were originally bound in volumes, each with a bookplate reading "bound at the expense of Mr. Frank W. Stearns of the Class of 1878." The volumes were disbound and listed between 1986 and 1989. Additional posters have come from a variety of sources, including alumni donation and administrative offices.

The posters, placards and broadsides in this collection provide a lens to view the public life of the college, particularly in the latter part of the 19th century. The material in this collection covers the range of student, academic and social concerns, from public lecture courses, musical performances, sporting events and public notices.

Poster, placards and broadsides advertising campus events and public notices. The collection provides a thorough overview of campus life from 1870 to 1905 with additional materials from other years, especially from the 1980s to present. Series 1-5 were originally in bound volumes; the original order and classification of material in these series have been maintained. Materials continue to be added to this collection.
