|aEugene Henry DeGruson (1932-1997) was a poet, historian, archivist, and collector born in Girard (Kan.). He joined the Pittsburg State University (Kansas) faculty in 1960 as an instructor in the English department. In 1967 he was asked to establish a southeast Kansas collection there, becoming curator of special collections and archivist. He became known nationally as a specialist in the history of Kansas and for publishing The Lost First Edition of Upton Sinclair's the Jungle in 1988. DeGruson died June 18, 1997, of a brain aneurism. |
